Unveiling the Self
UNVEILING THE SELF -
A JOURNEY THROUGH THE 5 KOSHAS
~the 5 layers of our being~
We are so much more than our physical bodies
Our Yoga practice teaches us this from the very beginning…
For most of us, when we start practicing Yoga, whether at a public class or at home by ourselves, we practice with our physical body in mind…
It takes all our effort to get our body into the “correct” shape, or to move through the poses with fluidity and ease..
And then we’re asked to breath as well “What !!! You’ve got to be kidding me !!!”
Then with time and practice, we notice improvement, the poses become a little easier to get into, and we move more graciously, and yes… all while breathing!
maybe even syncing our movements with our breath !
This is no easy feat…
But, just as we get comfortable with our practice, we begin to notice the thoughts running through our mind, the constant running commentary, regarding all of the things we’re doing wrong!
This is the next stage of our journey… Yes! It’s natural!
Slowly, slowly, we begin to quieten the chatter…everything is falling into place… And maybe we begin to see that this whole journey so far, has a purpose…
And our Yoga practice deepens….
Yogic philosophy tells us that we are more than just our physical body..
That in fact, we are made up of 5 energetic layers…
Each one affecting the other
Annamaya Kosha
the physical body,
is usually our introduction to our Yoga practice,
as we continue,
we learn to use the breath, this is the next layer,
Pranamaya Kosha,
and then with consistent practice,
we begin to uncover the deeper, more subtle layers of our being..
Manomaya Kosha, Mental layer,
Vijnanamaya Kosha, wisdom layer
and Anandamaya Kosha, the bliss body…
Throughout this retreat
you will be taken on a journey through each of these layers.
You will learn the philosophy behind the 5 Koshas,
You will develop a deeper awareness of each layer,
You will learn how they shape the way you live your life,
And, how your Yoga practice can bring harmony between the layers and ultimately, to your life…
Using Yoga practices such as Asana (poses), Pranayama (breath), and Meditation , you will explore each of the Koshas , starting with
Annamaya Kosha - the physical body,
with simple movements and yoga poses, you will develop a deeper awareness of this part of yourself..
Then, unveiling each layer, one by one, with gentle Yogic practices, you will develop an awareness of each of the layers, until you reach the deepest, most subtle layer of your being,
Anandamaya Kosha - the Bliss Body…
This retreat does not require any previous knowledge or experience with Yoga.
You will be guided slowly and gently, from the busyness and restlessness of the body and mind, into the quiet space that is the Bliss Body…
You will leave feeling rested, nourished and whole,
And, with a whole new appreciation of who you really are…
The morning will consist of teachings and practical exploration of the first 3 Koshas, this will be the more active part of the day, although, expect very gentle ,
accessible movement , and no, you don’t need to have practiced yoga before..
We will take a break for lunch.. you can eat in the cafe with other retreat participants, or , feel free to bring your own lunch and take some time outside..
The afternoon session will be restorative, contemplative and soul soothing, with Yoga Nidra and meditation practices…
I will have a supply of yoga props, but I encourage you to bring your own if you have some… You can’t have too many props !!!
